OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition Update 1
OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition Update 1 | 1.5 Gb
The OpenPlant development team is pleased to announce the availability of OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition Update 1 is plant design software that allows users in the process and manufacturing industries to improve design and operations with a collaborative, intelligent, 2D and 3D plant design environment based on open data standards.
Technology Preview Features for OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition Update 1
The following are Technology Preview Features in OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition.
- PlantSight Integration: PlantSight works in conjunction with a Connected Project which the project administrator will create and setup in the Bentley CONNECTION Center. Here a user can synchronize changes made to a local drawing sessions to it making those changes available to any user with permissions to login to the project.
Note: iModel schema upgrade is not supported for the Technology Preview.
Note: When syncing data with PlantSight the Differencing Dialog should always be enabled.
- Tag Browser: The Tag Browser displays existing component tags which have been created in PID and available to assign to 2D or 3D components.
- Page Connectors: Since PlantSight integration is in Technology Preview mode, page connectors, which rely on the ability to sync to the iModel Hub, are also considered to be in Technology Preview mode.
The description of a GCS can now be changed in the Geographic Coordinate System Properties dialog. Also, a new column GeoCS Description is added to the References dialog list box. It displays the description of the GCS, if the reference has one. This will help in identification of geographic coordinate systems, if you have many of them referenced in your model.
The following enhancements have been made to Item Types:
Ability to Attach Multiple Item Types
You can now select and attach multiple item types in one go using the Attach Item tool.
[Technology Preview] Pick List Manager
You can now create Pick Lists to associate with an item type property definition using the Pick List Manager. Pick lists provide a way to let you use predefined values for item types properties. You can specify a pick list for an item in the property definitions of Item Types dialog, and then specify a pick list value in the Attach Item tool for the specified pick list. Once the item is attached to an element, if needed, you can re-specify the pick list value in the Properties dialog of the element.
In this update, you will observe:
- Reduced time to switch to the backstage (File tab) from the working area
- Optimized OpenPlant PID loading with a large number of WorkSets and multiple references from mapped network drives
- Improved performance on the Properties Dialog, when it is open while selecting a cell from the cell library that resides on a network drive
OpenPlant PID provides a fully configurable user interface designed to make your job easier by automating traditionally time-intensive tasks. OpenPlant PID provides companies with an indispensable tool for creating "intelligent plant schematics." Utilizing the power of MicroStation to create the "intelligent plant schematics," companies and engineers can now learn more about their plant design in a fraction of the time that is needed to study hundreds of layout drawings or 3D models. OpenPlant PID provides a cost efficient application for companies by reducing the design and documentation time for capturing process information for system design and plant studies (HAZOP studies, etc.), ensuring compliance to OSHA 1910 and ISO standards. Through its "scaleable design," OpenPlant PID is suitable for large, mid-sized and small engineering companies and plant operators providing a key tool for the lifecycle design and documentation of process plants.

Note: You must have the following Microsoft updates installed on your machine:
KB2999226 - For Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2012 R2
KB2919355 - For Windows 8.1
Bentley does not support its software running on Microsoft operating systems versions that Microsoft has "retired".
Internet connectivity is required to install the product. Installer will attempt to automatically detect your computer's proxy settings from the Internet Explorer. If required, the installer will show a dialog for entering user name and password. In the absence of internet connection, you can create a Deployment Image of the product and install it.
Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)
Citrix XenApp 7.15 64-bit on Windows Server 2012 R2
The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications are automatically downloaded and installed to your workstation while you install OpenPlant PID . The contents of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications include:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
- Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications core
- Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications localized
Microsoft Internet Explorer, minimum v11.0, with 128-bit cipher strength. Microsoft no longer supports any versions prior to v11.0. Internet Explorer is not installed as part of the product pre-requisites.
The minimum recommended workstation profile for running OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition is:
Processor Intel or AMD processor 1.0 GHz or greater. OpenPlant PID is not supported on a CPU that does not support SSE2.
Memory 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended. More memory almost always improves performance, particularly when working with larger models.
Hard Disk 24 GB free disk space (which includes the 16 GB install footprint for a complete installation), 10-25 GB depending on additional installations such as Companion Features and Companion Products.
Video See the graphics card manufacturer for latest information on DirectX drivers. 512 MB of video RAM or higher is recommended. If insufficient video RAM or no graphics card supported by DirectX can be found, OpenPlant PID attempts to use software emulation. For optimal performance, graphics display color depth should be set to 24-bit or higher. When using a color depth setting of 16-bit, some inconsistencies will be noted.
Screen Resolution 1024 x 768 or higher.
