Back 1992 in The 910 (Vol.1 - No. 7), the writers declared:
"Someone definitively identify that song! We give up."
So, here it goes:
It was inspired by the film "Song of Love" (1947 MGM). Specifically, the scene in which Brahms plays a piece of "Hungarian Dance No. 4" (I think it's No. 4) on the piano.
The melody is identic, and the words are improvised by Paul, note that he's singing the film's title: "Song Of Love"
Back in 1947 another song was inspired by this scene: "As Years Go By", by Charles Tobias.
The melody is again the same, but the words aren't.
Paul may be thinking of this song as well on the movie.
So the song should be credited to: McCartney [lyrics], Brahms [music] - Inspired on the film "Song Of Love".
Or: McCartney[lyrics], Brahms [Music] - Inspired by Charles Tobias' "As Years Go By"
