After two decades of not being quite sure what my opinion of Aerosmith was, I finally broke down and bought this CD two weeks ago.
I can't stop listening to it.
There are some odd things here-for example, how come "Make It" is so good, even though Joe Perry's guitar solo is not quite in tune and is totally out of time? Is he playing along with a different song? And who did the lousy overdubbed lead guitar on "Somebody"? It's played bad and edited even worse. And what's with the goofy intro to the great "Walkin' The Dog"?
The real revalation, after years of hearing nothing but talk of coke addictions and internal squabbling associated with Aerosmith, is how fun and downright optimistic this band can be. "Make It," "Dream On," even "Mama Kin," all sound to me like declarations of independence and musical freedom from Steven Tyler. In it's best moments, this album doesn't just rock; it SWINGS.
"Dream On" is pure magic-and inspired, too, because there is nothing else here with the same level of musical sophistication-and it hasn't been rendered impotent by radio overkill the way that contemporaries like "Stairway To Heaven" or "Smoke On The Water" were.
I'm shocked to find that this record is carried NOT by Joe Perry-most gorups of the genre lean so heavily on lead guitarists-but by by bassist Tom Hamilton and (I spent years trying to avoid saying these words) the GREAT Steven Tyler.
I've spent two weeks listening to this, two weeks searching for the word to describe Tylers vocals, and I keep coming back to my initial adjective: MUSCULAR.
My god the guy can sing. He makes me feel strong and macho just listening to him. Trust me, that's saying a lot.
I loved the Rocks LP years ago, but even that album didn't display the guys throat like this CD. He could do ANYTHING at this point, and they were fresh off the bar circuit. He was what-20?-and gave Jagger a run for his money, right out of the box.
I hate to admit it, but you can now count me among the Aerosmith clan.

I'll give this one 4 stars just based on the songs but that's about as far as it goes. You get classic tunes like "Dream On" as well as lesser known masterpieces such as "Kings and Queens." However, for a band that has such a high reputation on the stage, they can do better than this. And they have. "Live Bootleg" as well as all other live albums since have surpassed "Classics Live 1? just based on the energy put into it.
The problem with the production of this record was that it was recorded msotly during the band's dark years of the early 80s. As a result, you don't get the classic lineup on most of the tunes. Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay are no match for Perry/Whitford. You really feel the difference on this record. It shows you what the basis of Aerosmith's sound is all about and how this album doesn't contain it.
This is definitely a valuable purchase if for no other reason than that it contains "Major Barbara", which is aware nowhere else. But in the end, this should not be your last stop for live Aerosmith.

This album is pretty good, it's just too short. It is better than the first Classics Live! but it would've been better if the songs were put together and packaged as one CD. The beginning of Same Old Song and Dance is cool. The riff starts and stops a few times before the band goes into the song. The highlight for me was getting to hear Let The Music Do The Talking live on an album. This is a decent but SHORT listen.

Original lead guitarist Joe Perry re-joined Aerosmith in 1985, and this album marked the beginning of their hugely succesful late-eighties comeback. It didn't get nearly as much attention as "Pump" or even "Permanent Vacation", partly because it lacks the obvious pop hit, I suppose, but it is actually a very solid hard rock record, perhaps Aerosmith's best since "Rocks".
The production is excellent, the riffs are big and dirty, the arrangements lean and mean, and "Mirrors" opens with one of Aerosmith's best songs of the 80s, the high-energy "Let The Music Do The Talking".
Other highlights include the funky, mid-tempo swagger of "Shame On You", the wonderfully titled groove of "The Reason A Dog", and the gritty, riff-driven two-guitar onslaught of "My Fist Your Face", a superb slice of melodic hard rock.
And yes, Steven Tyler's lyrics are immature and chauvenistic.although it's not nearly as bad as some of these reviewers will have you believe. But if you're going to take that kind of stuff seriously, you have no business listening to Aerosmith in the first place. Better stick with the Osmonds.

Draw the Line is the fifth album by American rock band Aerosmith, released December 1, 1977. The album was recorded in an abandoned convent near New York City, rented out for that purpose.[2] The band lived there while recording the album, doing drugs, sleeping, eating, shooting guns, and driving their sports cars in between recording sessions.
At the time of release the band was considered big enough that the name didn't appear on the front of the album artwork. The portrait of the band was drawn by renowned celebrity caricaturist Al Hirschfeld.

At the end of the 1970's, Columbia Records released Aerosmith's Greatest Hits. At the time of its release, just about everyone thought their best days were behind them, thus the release of a greatest hits album. Although the album had all the hits, it didn't quite tell the whole story. The beauty of Aerosmith's '70s albums was that the album tracks were just as strong as their singles, especially on Toys In The Attic and Rocks. So with Aerosmith at the beginning of their near impossible comeback of the late '80s with Geffen Records, Columbia hopped on the money train and released Gems, a stellar collection of their best album tracks.
Although this collection was released strictly for profit, it showed fans that came during the late '80s that they were more than the band that did "Dream On" and "Walk This Way." Most of the tracks here are top notch, with 8 of the collection's 12 cuts coming from their first four classic albums. These tracks are the strongest ones here, with the tracks "Rats In The Cellar", "Train Kept A Rollin", and "Mama Kin" still getting regular airplay on classic rock radio. The remaining cuts from these albums, "Nobody's Fault", "Lick And A Promise", "Round And Round", and "Adam's Apple" are also excellent tracks. The tracks "Critical Mass", "No Surprize", and "Jailbait", are all strong tracks which are salvaged from their albums after Rocks, which were progressively weaker with each release as dissention and hard living affected the band's creativity. Also featured here is the excellent studio version of "Chip Away The Stone", which was originally only available as a live track from their Live Bootleg album. This is a strong collection of their lesser known album tracks. It definitely blows away everything they recorded after Pump. If you like the tracks on Gems, I'd highly recommend Rocks and Toys In The Attic, their best albums, and some of the best hard rock recorded in the '70s.

Get a Grip is the eleventh studio album by US rock band Aerosmith, released in 1993. It was the band's last studio album released by Geffen Records.
Get a Grip contains five hit singles, four of which charted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, between 1993 and 1994: "Livin' on the Edge", "Eat the Rich", "Cryin'", "Amazing" and "Crazy". The promotional videos for the three latter songs helped launch the careers of actress Alicia Silverstone and vocalist Steven Tyler's daughter Liv. Although never released as a single "Line Up" appeared in the 1994 comedy film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Get a Grip featured guests including Don Henley, who sang backup on "Amazing", and Lenny Kravitz, who offered backup vocals and collaboration to "Line Up". As on Permanent Vacation and Pump, this album featured numerous song collaborators from outside the band including: Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, Mark Hudson, Richie Supa, Taylor Rhodes, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw.
Get a Grip became Aerosmith's best-selling studio album worldwide, achieving sales of over 20 million copies, and is tied with Pump for their second best-selling album in the United States, selling over 7 million copies as of 1995. This also made it their third consecutive album with US sales of at least five million.
In the UK, it is the only Aerosmith studio-album to be certified Platinum (300,000 units sold) by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving this in October 1994.
Get a Grip won the band two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

In 1974, Aerosmith was some what of a sensation in Boston, where their constant touring and high octane hard rock endeared them to thousands of fans. Their debut, a fantastic mix of hard rock and gritty blues tracks, helped Aerosmith develop a cult following around Boston, not unlike The Grateful Dead. Fans considered Aerosmith "the next Led Zeppelin" , and when 'Get Your Wings' was released, fans eagerly picked up the album. Although not popular until many years later, 'Get Your Wings' eventually went multi-platinum and contained the hit singles "Same Old Song And Dance" and "Train Kept A Rollin'.
By 'Get Your Wings', Aerosmith began to sound more and more like the band that produced classic songs like "Walk This Way" and "Back In The Saddle". Steven Tyler's singing voice began to take on the high-pitched, over-the-top sound that made him one of the most identifiable singers in rock n' roll. Aerosmith even began to branch out their songs, playing more original, experimental, and darker tracks that distinguished them from other blues and Led Zeppelin clones. "Same Old Song And Dance", an Aerosmith classic, pits distorted, kick ass blues guitar against Stephen Tyler's energetic, in-your-face singing. "Lord of Your Thighs" is a slower, percussive hard rock track that is very dark and gritty. "Spaced" is a "spacy" rock track, with an emotional, trippy verse, complete with "epic" sounding guitar work. Definitely one of Aerosmith's most different and inspired songs. "Woman of the World" is a folk and blues inspired hard rocker, and has the sound of a guitar "orchestra", much like early Led Zeppelin. "S.O.S.(Too Bad)" is a loud, brazen hard rocker that is your typical Aerosmith. "Train Kept A Rollin'" is a cover of the classic Yardbirds song, layered with louder and more distorted guitars. Tyler is at his best. his vocals fit the pompous, youthful energy of the song perfectly. Easily one of Aerosmith's best, "Train Kept A Rollin'" is definitely one of the best examples of Joe Perry's mastery of the blues guitar. "Seasons of Wither" is hands down one of Aerosmith's best, most underrated tracks. A dark, progressive, and emotional track, "Seasons of Wither" reminds me of Led Zeppelin's darker material. This song is great, and probably the best on the album. "Pandora's Box" ends the album with a bluesy, upbeat hard rocker, full of loud, blazing guitars.
'Get Your Wings' is a fantastic album, and unfortuneatly is often overlooked by fans of Aerosmith's earlier material. This album has a very mature sound, and Joe Perry and Steven Tyler display some of their best work here. Aerosmith would go on to even greater success with 'Toys In The Attic' and 'Rocks', but you shouldn't overlook their first albums, because they are just as good. In my opinion, "Same Old Song And Dance", "Spaced", "Train Kept A Rollin", and "Seasons of Wither" are all some of Aerosmith's most inspired tracks.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO FANS OF CLASSIC ROCK, HARD ROCK, AND AEROSMITH! IF YOU LIKE AEROSMITH, DON'T OVERLOOK THIS CLASSIC ALBUM!

Live! Bootleg is a live album by American hard rock band Aerosmith, released in 1978.
While most of the performances were drawn from concerts in 1977 and 1978, the covers "I Ain't Got You" and "Mother Popcorn" were taken from a radio broadcast of a Boston performance on March 20, 1973.
The design of the album is intended to ape the poor production values offered by contemporary bootleg records, even going so far as to give an incorrect track listing: the song "Draw the Line" is included on the record but does not appear listed. The back of the album cover includes two coffee stains over the picture of Joe Perry playing before a live audience.
The record also features one of Aerosmith's first live versions of The Beatles "Come Together" (which they performed in the 1978 movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) and the first record appearance of Richie Supa's "Chip Away the Stone" (the studio version of this song would later be released on 1988's Gems compilation). This album was briefly featured on the episode Prank Day of That '70s Show.

Night in the Ruts is the sixth album by American rock band Aerosmith.
Joe Perry left the band midway through the recording of the album. The album was not produced by Jack Douglas who had produced Aerosmith's previous four albums. Instead, Columbia Records brought in Gary Lyons as a producer.
About halfway through the recording of the album, due to mounting debt and the need for the band to generate an income, the record label and management set Aerosmith out on another tour without extra time to finish the album, which pushed the album to being released later in the year. Joe Perry left the band mid-way through the tour, after a violent feud involving the band members and their wives. Prior to his departure, Perry had completed guitar parts for "No Surprize", "Chiquita", "Cheesecake", "Bone to Bone (Coney Island Whitefish Boy)", and "Three Mile Smile". The guitar parts for the remaining songs were recorded by Brad Whitford, Richie Supa, Neil Thompson, and Jimmy Crespo (who later became Perry's official replacement from 1979 to 1984).
Despite some critical acclaim and early success, the album quickly fell down the charts. The album has since achieved platinum status. Promo videos for "No Surprize" and "Chiquita" were filmed (featuring Perry's replacement Jimmy Crespo); however, these videos received little television airplay. "Chiquita" is available on the band's Video Scrapbook VHS and laserdisc release.
The title is an intentional spoonerism of the phrase "right in the nuts", which was subsequently the title of the tour[citation needed], and was shown on the back artwork for the album.
