Scorpions je hard rocková skupina založená v Hannoveri v roku 1965 Rudolfom Schenkerom. Najväčší úspech zožala skupina v osemdesiatych rokoch, kedy vydala 4 štúdiové a 1 live album. Preslávili sa najmä skladbami ako Rock You Like a Hurricane, The Zoo, Holiday, Always Somewhere, Big City Nights, najznámejšou baladou Still Loving You, či ich všeobecne najznámejšou skladbou Wind Of Change.

Rudolf Schenker zakladá v roku 1965 v Hannoveri kapelu Scorpions. Pôvodne bola založená ako „školská“ kapela, no v roku 1969 sa Scorpions stáva profesionálou skupinou. V týhto prvých štyroch rokoch histórie hral Rudolf Schenker na gitaru, ale aj spieval. Na prelome rokov 1969/1970 prichádza do kapely Rudolfov brat Michael Schenker a spevák Klaus Meine zo skupiny Copernicus. Už o dva roky, teda v roku 1972 vychádza debutový album skupiny pod názvom Lonesome Crow s Lotharom Heimbergom na bassovej gitare a s Wolgangom Dzionym, ktorý sedel za bicími. Bol to celkovo celkom úspešný album s výbornými skladbami ako I' Going Mad či samotnou Lonesome Crow. Hneď po vydaní albumu hrali Scorpions ako predkapela britskej skupiny UFO. Po jednom z koncertov opúšťa Michael Schenker skupinu (odchádza práve do UFO) a na jeho miesto prichádza veľký gitarový majster Uli Jon Roth.
S ním nahráva skupina album Fly to the Rainbow (1974). Pred nahrávaním sa ale zmenil post bubeníka a basgitaristu. Za bicie si sadá Jürgen Rosenthal a novým basgitaristom sa stáva Francis Buchholz (so skupinou hral až do roku 1993). Album Fly to the Rainbow bol ale oproti Lonesome Crow obrovský pokrok. Piesne Speedy's Coming, či Fly to the Rainbow patria doteraz medzi veľké klasiky (Speedy's Coming sa dodnes hráva no koncertoch skupiny).Po tomto albume skupinu opúšťa bubeník Jürgen Rosenthal a na jeho miesto prichádza Rudy Lenners. S ním skupina nahrala album In Trance (1975), čo bol ďalší posun vpred. Piesne In Trance, Dark Lady, či Robot Man patria taktiež k tým najvydarenejším. Scorpions sa doslova stávajú jednou z najznámejších rockových skupín.
V tejto zostave Scorpions nahrali ešte album Virgin Killer (1976). Album je veľmi vydarený, no pod dohľad kritiky sa dostáva obal albumu - niet divu, pretože je na ňom nahé 11-ročné dievča. Scorpions to síce nejako ututlali, no sám spevák Klaus Meine povedal, že bol veľmi prekvapený, keď obal po prvý krát videl. Preto je teraz možné získať album s dvoma rozdielnymi obalmi (na druhom sú odfotení všetci piati členovia skupiny). Celkovo bol ale Virgin Killer dovtedy najlepším albumom skupiny.

Po Virgin Killer Scorpions opúšťa Rudy Lenners a na jeho miesto si skupina vybrala Hermana Rarebella (bubeníkom skupiny bol až do roku 1996). S ním nahrávajú album Taken by Force (1977). Ten dosť rýchlo predbehol vo vedení Virgin Killer a stal sa vtedy najuznávanejším albumom Scorpionsákov. Počas turné zavítali po prvýkrát aj do Japonska, kde pravládala obrovská "Scorpions mánia".
Z koncertu v Tokiu vzniká ich prvý live album pod názvom Tokyo Tapes, vydaný v roku 1978, ktorý sa v Nemecku dokonca dostáva v rebríčku predajnosti na 35 miesto. Kritikmi je album hodnotený ako jeden z najlepších živákov v rockovej histórii. Tokyo Tapes je posledným albumom Scorpions spolu s Ulim Rothom. Ten zo skupiny odchádza a na jeho miesto opäť prišiel Michael Schenker. S ním skupina nahráva album Lovedrive (1979), no po troch nahraných piesňach (Lovedrive, Another Piece Of Meat a inštrumentálke Coast To Coast) opäť odchádza (kvôli problémom s alkoholom). Zo 140 záujemcov na post sólového gitaristu tak Scorpions vyberú Matthiasa Jabsa.
Matthias Jabs sa stáva novým sólovým gitaristom a s ním donahrávajú album Lovedrive. Album sa stáva veľmi úspešný (mnohými hodnotený ako najlepší počin skupiny). Dokonca sa dostáva aj do Top 100 v USA a tiež vo Veľkej Británii (v USA je na 55 pozícii, v Británii na 36-tej, v rodnom Nemecku dokonca na 11-tom mieste) a v Nemecku, USA a vo Francúzsku sa stáva zlatým. Matthias Jabs perfektne zapadol do skupiny a to nielen ako gitarista, ale aj ako skladateľ. S ním sa začína nová éra skupiny.

It was always our pleasure, our purpose in life, our passion and we were fortunate enough to make music for you – whether it was live on stage or in the studio, creating new songs.
While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was – and how much fun we were still having, in the process. But there was also something else: We want to end the Scorpion’s extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we’ve always had since the beginning. This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road. We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years.
